Be a Part of the Goodwill Movement...

The Goodwill movement began in Boston in the early 1900s, dedicated to helping people with barriers to employment. Spurred by the realization that the needs of people with disabilities could no longer be ignored, community leaders in 1966 worked with United Way officials to form Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids, Inc., serving participants in Kent County.

Goodwill is a community success story. In its 42 years, Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids has helped over 25,000 people with disabilities and other barriers realize their full potential for greater satisfaction in life through sustained employment and participation in the community as taxpayers and consumers. It is autonomous in its operations and is governed by a 25-member local board of directors. Professionally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), Goodwill is a partner agency of Heart of West Michigan United Way and is affiliated with Goodwill Industries International, which represents the interest in Washington of Goodwill agencies in the United States and Canada, as well as the interests in foreign countries.
